The Lawnmower Menace

An introductory Kiwi Acres adventure for Mausritter

This module is made for use with Mausritter. It may be adapted into other games.

The Lawnmower Menace is one of 10 adventures in Kiwi Acres and is included in the full Kiwi Acres collection for Mausritter – it is free and works very well as an introductory adventure into the setting. While the adventures work best within Kiwi Acres, they are designed to be playable as one-shots in any context.

In the backyard of the Kiwi Acres farmhouse, a community of mice has fallen into despair. The source of their suffering? A monstrous contraption known as the lawnmower – roaring through the fields, it shreds everything in its path. No mouse is safe from its deadly blades, and the once-bustling settlement has been reduced to a ghost town.

With the help of the settlementโ€™s best wireworker, you must navigate the treacherous backyard and sabotage the lawnmower before it can claim any more lives. Will you succeed, or will you become just another casualty in the war against this vile machine? The fate of the village rests in your pawsโ€ฆ

When I first pitched The Lawnmower Menace to my group, we all had a good laughโ€”not at the premise, but right along with it. We were immediately charmed by the wonderful silliness of the idea: a party of mice versus a lawnmower. Itโ€™s the kind of fun, creative concept that gets everyone excited to play. From the moment we started, my players were totally invested in the high-stakes, tiny-scale drama of it all. Seeing them treat a simple suburban backyard like a dangerous, untamed wilderness was an absolute blast. The adventure gives you just enough to work withโ€”a few key locations and a clear goalโ€”and then gets out of the way, which made it incredibly easy and fun for me to run. We had some truly memorable moments, from a tense standoff near the “Eel Pond” (a garden hose puddle) to a heroic rescue from a pile of leaves.

What started as a fun, one-off session has genuinely sparked something more for my group. The adventure was so engaging and the final, explosive solution my players came up with was so satisfying, that we immediately started brainstorming what could happen next.

We went from laughing with the idea of mouse-sized heroes to seriously planning out a full campaign based on the fallout from their battle with the mechanical beast.

For any GM looking for a perfect, low-prep introduction to Mausritter, I can’t recommend this enough. Itโ€™s a perfect example of how a simple, charming idea can create a truly unforgettable night of gaming and even plant the seeds for a much bigger adventure.

An amazing little adventure perfect to introduce people to the world of Mausritter! The idea of having to disable a lawnmower as a mouse is great: it’s easy to understand and it serves to keep the size of mice always present. The pamphlet layout is also very easy to read. ๐Ÿ’ฏ Very recommended.
